This week has been very busy at the Capitol with session and committee hearings. The House passed over 100 bills this week that are making their way to the Senate. Next week, we are expecting late nights in Springfield with several more bills being debated and voted on. I will continue the work of representing my district by supporting legislation that benefits my constituents and makes their lives brighter. We need to roll up our sleeves, work together, and pass bills that improve the quality of life for everyone in Illinois.
Rep. Schmidt Supports Bill That Helps At Risk and Homeless Students

Looking after our children is one of my priorities which is why I support HB 4137. This bill will allow school districts to go beyond traditional services to help create a more stable housing environment for students who are going through tough times.
Stable housing is crucial for the well-being of our children and it’s important we do all we can to prevent disruptions in a child’s education, and this new policy will help students in the 114th District and across the state.
Schmidt Working to Reduce The High Cost of Living

Tackling the cost of living in Illinois should be a bipartisan priority, however, the majority party wants to raise taxes by $728 billion as spending continues to grow. If they were serious about affordability, they would take action to reduce taxes though policy reform, create a long-term solution to improve general revenue, and be disciplined to maintain fiscal responsibility. Read more and take a quick survey!
House Republicans are Focused on Lowering the Cost of Living
HR24– No tax on retirement
HB4088– Lowers Cost of Energy

Schmidt Moves Forward in Effort to Improve Community Pharmacies

House Bill 4243, will improve working conditions for pharmacies across Illinois and provide customers with better service.
“Community pharmacies play a crucial role in our healthcare system with pharmacists who make sure patients use medications correctly, provide preventative health screenings, and offer advice for over-the-counter medications.”
Property Taxes

Illinois residents are sick and tired of Governor Pritzker’s blame game whenever a crisis occurs in our state. While the Governor refuses to act, House Republicans have put forward real solutions to help lower property taxes and make Illinois more affordable for our residents.
HB 2642 Improves the Property Tax Extension Limitation Law
HB 2641 creates a school district levy exemption for seniors
HB 1321 provides that property tax collections in excess of 150 percent of the previous year’s amounts be refunded to taxpayers.

Resources for First Responders

First responders are the backbone of public safety. They are the first ones there when we need them most, working under extreme conditions to save lives, restore order, and provide immediate care. These individuals often work long hours, put themselves in dangerous situations, and deal with high-stress environments to ensure the safety and well-being of others. Here are helpful resources that benefit our first responders.
