In Need of Assistance? Find a Food Pantry in Your Area

Food and basic necessities are a fundamental need for everyone in our community. Whether you’re facing temporary hardship or ongoing challenges, there are resources available to help.

If you know of or operate a food pantry in the district that should be added to this list, please contact Rep. Schmidt’s district office at 618-215-1050.

Monthly Donations

Rep. Schmidt has committed to dedicating the pay raise he voted against in last year’s budget to a different food pantry each month. He plans on continuing this practice. If you’re able, consider joining Rep. Schmidt in donating to these food pantries. Together, we can all make a difference!

Illinois Grocery Store Initiative

The Illinois Grocery Initiative (Public Act 103-0561) aims to improve access to fresh foods, especially in areas designated as “food deserts.” Food deserts are communities with limited access to affordable and nutritious food options.

The IGI includes programs such as:

Equipment Upgrades Grant Program: This program provides grants for energy-efficient equipment upgrades for existing independently owned for-profit grocery stores, cooperative grocery stores, or not-for-profit grocery stores. Priority is given to those located in food-insecure communities across the state. Applications for the initial round are due March 25th at 5:00 p.m.

Grants for New Grocery Stores in Food Deserts (COMING SOON): The second program under IGI will offer competitive grants to support the establishment of new grocery stores in food deserts. These grants will provide reimbursement for both capital and non-capital costs associated with establishing sustainable grocery stores in these underserved areas.

Thank you for your support and commitment to ensuring everyone in our district has access to the food and resources they need to thrive. Together, we can make a difference.
