Illinois’ Priorities Must Change

To sum up this week in session, no legislation was debated or passed to lower taxes or energy rates in Illinois. Instead of focusing on affordability, the time used in Springfield was directed towards attacking legal gun owners & manufacturers, allowing convicted felons to vote from their jail cells, and debating new regulations on how Illinois residents use natural gas to cook and heat their homes.

Session will adjourn in one week and kitchen table issues remain to be addressed. The past five months we have listened to Speaker Welch and his party talk a lot about bringing down the cost of living through policy reform.

The taxpayers of Illinois deserve better and they certainly don’t need any more broken promises coming from Chicago politicians.

Governor JB Pritzker once again claimed he is fighting to lower taxes for working and middle-class families. After years of high taxes and fees, Illinois families know that claim simply is not true.

A prime example is from last year when Democrats in the Illinois General Assembly passed the largest budget in state history, totaling more than $55 billion and including roughly $700 million in new taxes.

Enacting 57 tax hikes since 2019 is not addressing the affordability crisis in Illinois.
