State Rep. Kevin Schmidt Supports Illinois Veterans

Rep. Schmidt’s bill to appreciate military service passed through the General Assembly and heads to the Governor’s desk to be signed into law. House Bill 4385 expands access to military license plates as a small but meaningful way to recognize those who have served our country.

“This bill allows veterans and service members who already have military plates to obtain a second identical set for another vehicle without unnecessary hurdles,” Rep. Schmidt said. “It is a simple way to show our appreciation and make things a little easier for those who have sacrificed for our country.”

Schmidt also filed House Bill 1421, legislation that would create the Veterans Day Paid Leave Act. This bill would require all employers to provide each veteran employee with paid time off on Veterans’ Day.

In addition to legislation, Rep. Schmidt’s office hosts an annual “Valentines for Veterans” program. He encourages students and residents of all ages to make Valentine’s Day cards, drawings, and well-wishes to veterans that served our nation in the U.S. Armed Forces.

“I believe the small things we do for the men and women who served our country makes a big difference in their lives. The purpose of my Valentines for Veterans card drive is to let them know our community supports them and appreciates their sacrifices made to protect our freedoms.”
