Schmidt’s Spotlight: Pharmacy Visits and Upcoming Events

This week has been busy in the 114th District! We visited local pharmacies to congratulate them on receiving grant funds through the Prescription Drug Affordability Act. This is legislation I co-sponsored that will help keep the doors open for small town pharmacies that many people depend on for health care services!

My office also hosted two Mobile Office Events in O’Fallon and Lebanon to speak with constituents about state issues and to hear there concerns about current policies shaping Illinois.

I’m highlighting a new law I helped pass that reduces prescription drug costs, increases accountability for pharmacy middlemen, known as pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), and delivers vital support to both rural and medically underserved pharmacies across the 114th District.

Earlies this week, I visited local pharmacies in the 114th District to congratulate them on receiving grant funds! See photos from my visit here.

Monthly Food Donation

Rep. Schmidt Donates Monthly Pay Raise to the TWIGS Program in Dupo

Dupo, IL…State Representative Kevin Schmidt (R-Millstadt) continues to donate the legislative pay raise he voted against to local organizations throughout the 114th District to help families in need. This month, he donated a variety of essential food items to the TWIGS Program, which provides free summer lunches to children ages 18 and under in Dupo, East Carondelet, and Cahokia Heights.

“I take pride in donating my legislative pay raise to help people in our communities who are less fortunate,” Schmidt said. “The TWIGS Program provides meals to children who may not have access to lunch during the summer months when school is out. I’m happy to support their efforts and help ensure children don’t have to worry about where their next meal will come from during summer break.”

Through July 29, children ages 18 and under can pick up a free lunch between 11:30 a.m. and noon on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the following locations:

  • Dupo Village Park
  • North Dupo Fire Department
  • Dupo High School Cafeteria
  • “MOM’S ON A MISSION”
  • East Carondelet Community Building
  • Huffman School in Cahokia Heights

Cost of Living

Tackling the cost of living in Illinois should be a bipartisan priority, however, the majority party raised taxes by $800 billion as spending continues to grow. If they were serious about affordability, they would take action to reduce taxes though policy reform, create a long-term solution to improve general revenue, and be disciplined to maintain fiscal responsibility.

We must do more to help Illinois residents keep more money in their pockets. I’m focused on lowering the cost of living by supporting legislation that will help alleviate some of the rising costs we are seeing across the state.

  • HR24– No tax on retirement
  • HB4088– This bill repeals the Energy Transition Act, the Energy Community Reinvestment Act, the Community Energy, Climate, and Jobs Planning Act, and the Illinois Clean Energy Jobs and Justice Fund Act.
  • HB1383– No tax on tips
  • HB1321Refunds Property Tax Surplus to Taxpayers
  • HB58Creates a ‘Sales Tax Holiday’
  • HB47Lowers Property Taxes for Seniors
