Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day in Springfield

Hundreds of individuals attended the Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day (IGOLD) Rally at the Capitol in Springfield. Law-abiding gun owners showed up in support of the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and to voice their frustration about Democrats in Illinois who continue to attack lawful gun owners.

Illinois Democrats have attacked legal gun owners year-after-year, but criminals continue to run amok, break laws without consequences, and make our communities less safe.

Take a look at legislation Democrats claim to be reducing crime:

The Protect Illinois Communities Act (HB5471)

Illinois law banning the sale, manufacture, and distribution of assault weapons (cherry-picked by Democrats) and high-capacity magazines.

This firearms ban is a direct attack on common use firearms used for personal protection. If Democrats want to curb gun violence, they should focus on enforcing current laws, prosecute criminals, and allow law enforcement to protect the people. Banning firearms, standard size magazines, and forcing citizens to register their firearms does absolutely nothing to improve public safety.

RIFL Act (HB3320)

Legislation designed to hold gun manufacturers financially accountable for gun violence by requiring them to pay licensing fees to fund a victim compensation fund. Yet another overreaching piece of legislation that will drive up costs for law-abiding gun owners.

Ammo Tax (HB4414)

This is another example of a bad bill crafted behind closed doors that punishes individuals and law enforcement who exercise their second amendment right. This bill will do nothing to improve public safety or hold criminals accountable. This bill treats every Illinois gun owner as a criminal-in-waiting, buries small retailers in new registration mandates, and builds a de facto ammunition ownership registry that privacy-conscious citizens should find alarming.
