Schmidt’s Spotlight: The Budget

Rep. Kevin Schmidt Issues Budget React Statement

Springfield, IL…State Representative Kevin Schmidt (R-Millstadt) released the following statement after Governor JB Pritzker delivered his annual State of the State and Budget Address to the General Assembly.

“A budget address is another reflection of Governor Pritzker’s commitment to Illinois – more taxes, more fees, and more mandates,” said Schmidt. “The taxpayers of Illinois deserve a truly balanced budget that does not include tax hikes, wasteful spending, or budget gimmicks. Illinoisans are ready for a transparent government that holds politicians accountable and protects taxpayer dollars from being wasted on Democrat pork projects. Unfortunately, the Governor’s proposed budget misses the mark.”

Governor Pritzker and Illinois Democrats will blame anybody but themselves for Illinois’ affordability crisis.

The fact is, decades of mismanaged budgets and out-of-control spending has cost our residents dearly. It’s time for these “leaders” to take accountability and stop the tax-and-spend policies that drive up the cost of living in Illinois. A good starting point for Illinois would be to opt into “No Tax on Tips & Overtime”- a federal policy that Pritzker does not support.

Last week, I joined my colleagues to attend a Southern Illinois Builders Association event in Collinsville. It was a great opportunity to network with local builders and have meaningful conversations about how legislators can continue supporting pro-growth policies that benefit Southern Illinois!

The Freeburg Food and Clothing Bank also has a drop box connected to their building for local donations. If you’d like to help their cause, the Freeburg Food and Clothing Bank can be found at 1050 N. State St. in Freeburg.
