Smithton Food Pantry

This week, I stopped by the Smithton Food Pantry to drop-off my personal donations but also ALL the food donations that were collected from my Holiday Food Drive last week.

Thank you again to everyone who helped contribute to a great cause- we will be helping over 50 families in the Smithton community for Christmas!

East St. Louis

East St. Louis and Cahokia Heights has battled major flooding issues for awhile, but we have made a step in the right direction thanks to the Steiger Ditch Project, that is now completed in East. St. Louis.

There is a lot more work to be done to improve drainage and reduce flooding but the IEPA grant certainly helped create for a long-term solution in this area!

Chicago Transit Bill

Governor Pritzker has signed the Chicago Mass Transit Bill into law- SB111. Let this be a reminder that Downstate taxpayers will see much less of their tax dollars funding roads and bridges. The Democrats decided to sweep funds from a “Lock Box” to bailout the CTA, Metra and Pace.

This means Downstate sales tax on motor fuel will be split to benefit Chicago. Traditionally we saw a 55%/45% split favoring Downstate for Roads and Bridges through the MYP, but under SB2111 the split is now 85%/15%.

I voted no on this bill because Downstate taxpayers will now see an estimated loss of $473 million in road funds that were designated for roads and infrastructure repairs.

Illinois Needs Ethics Reform to Restore Public Trust

The stain of corruption on Illinois’ government is sadly well known. In recent years, federal prosecutors have been cleaning up the mess caused by Illinois’ lax ethics laws with several high-profile corruption convictions against some of the most powerful politicians in Illinois history. The ComEd Four, the longest-serving House Speaker in Illinois, Michael Madigan, long-time Chicago Alderman Ed Burke, Madigan’s Chief of Staff Tim Mapes, and others are now behind bars.

Illinois’ Energy

Democrats’ green energy initiatives have crippled Illinois’ energy supply and caused costs to skyrocket. Now, a new report warns of impending power shortages across the state if policies don’t change.

We need an “all of the above” approach to energy in Illinois to ensure our residents have access to reliable, affordable power.

Illinois could see an energy shortage as soon as 2029
