Schmidt’s Spotlight: News from this week

This past week in Springfield, we saw more bad bills filed that do not reflect the needs of Illinois residents. We have an uphill battle against the super majority party, but I will continue to work with my colleagues to support commonsense legislation. Furthermore, we need to stand up and let Chicago legislators know we strongly oppose HB3527. If enacted, it would directly affect the Freeburg Midgets! Two hearings have been scheduled:

Education Policy Committee Hearing Mar 19 2025 8:00AM Capitol Building Room 122B Springfield, IL
Education Policy Committee Hearing Mar 20 2025 2:00PM Capitol Building Room 122B Springfield, IL

File a Witness Slip if you oppose HB3527.

In District

I met with Jarrod and Mike from A. Burgess Locksmith, INC. in O’Fallon to discuss their valid concerns over locksmith licensing requirements that will sunset in 2029.

They are both concerned that waving current requirements, such as background checks and exams would detrimental to the safety of customers, and I agree. Illinois must have safeguards to protect residents from “fake” locksmiths and if Democrats let the locksmith licensing sunset, they will be reducing safety in our communities, especially for seniors.

I was happy to meet with constituents to discuss education, specifically the importance of literacy.

Today I was in E. St. Louis to join the community in support of helping individuals with disabilities. This was open to the public and there was a great turnout! I spoke to community leaders and local families who all share the same goal- providing resources to individuals with disabilities so we can work together to improve their quality of life.

When you visit E. St. Louis, grabbing good BBQ is a must!

Congratulations to the Lincoln Middle School Boys basketball team for earning State Champ Status!
