Cahokia Heights, IL…This past weekend,State Representative Kevin Schmidt volunteered with Sleep in Heavenly Peace Metro East, dedicating his time and energy to delivering and assembling beds for children in need. This effort brought together a team of nearly 70 volunteers to make a substantial impact in the community.
The day started with the arrival of a generous donation from Hope to Dream/Ashley Homestores, contributing 60 mattresses for the bed delivery. Darby, the driver from Ashley Homestores, played a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of these much-needed mattresses. Rep. Schmidt expressed his gratitude, stating, “I extend my heartfelt thanks to Hope to Dream/Ashley Homestores for their generous donation and to Devin Garouette for coordinating the donation and delivery. Your contributions are truly amazing!”
With the combined efforts of the volunteers, including dedicated individuals from the Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity (of which Rep. Schmidt is a member) and Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority from SIUE, and the Rotary Clubs of O’Fallon Sunrise and Edwardsville, the team successfully delivered 67 beds to excited and grateful children. This event marked the delivery of 369 beds in 2023 alone, contributing to an impressive total of 1,024 beds since the inception of the Sleep in Heavenly Peace Metro East chapter.
Rep. Schmidt said, “Today, with the help of almost 70 volunteers, we delivered 67 beds to 67 kids in need. Sleep in Heavenly Peace Metro East and all the volunteers present today exemplify the positive impact that a community can achieve when coming together for a common cause.”
Special recognition to Josh Stout and his friends from Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity and Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority for their consistent support in delivering beds. The Rotary Club of O’Fallon Sunrise and Rotary Club of Edwardsville also contributed, along with Tammy Mitchell Hines who generously donated the use of her moving truck.
